Global PIC opportunities until 2030 and beyond

In this presentation, we will discuss the opportunities for PICs in terms of applications in communication, sensing and computing domains in the next ten years. The first type of application concerns data transmission at different scales: telecom, datacom and computercom. Other applications relate to High Performance Computing with Quantum PIC (QPIC) and potential Optical Processing Units (OPU). The sensing domain offers very important opportunities in many end-user markets such as automotive and transportation (LIDARs), healthcare (bio-sensing, implantable microdevice, monitoring of biomarkers …), aerospace (remote and fiber-based sensing) as well as agri-food and environment.

Dr. Thierry Robin has over twenty years’ experience in both technical innovation and marketing in the optics and photonics industry. In 2010, Thierry co-founded TEMATYS which provides a range of services in the fields of optics, photonics, sensors and quantum technologies: market research, custom studies, strategy and decision making, and business development. TEMATYS has more than 200 customers in 20 countries (Europe, US, Asia …). Our clients are companies of all sizes, from international groups to SMEs and start-ups as well as research organizations and laboratories. We are also partners in European projects for Exploitation and Dissemination. Before founding TEMATYS, Thierry worked as team manager in several Research and Technology Organizations. Thierry Robin graduated from Ecole Polytechnique, Paris (France). He holds a master’s degree from Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris (France) and a PhD from Ecole Polytechnique.
