Photonic integrated circuits (PIC) are enabling a variety of applications in data/telecom, sensing, lidar, AI, Quantum Computing. For all these applications, one common challenge is to design and validate photonic IP blocks such as AWGs, MZM, 90 degree optical hybrids and MZI lattices. These building blocks are then used to build PICs. In this presentation we will talk about the challenges that design teams may encounter when it comes to designing validated IP blocks, starting from our own experience supporting customers and building our own synthesis toolbox for creating parametric AWGs.
Dr. Martin Fiers is Product Manager and co-founder of Luceda Photonics. He received his Ph.D. degree in Integrated Photonics at Ghent University (UGent) in Belgium, 2013, with his research focus on the field of photonic circuit modeling and machine learning. During his Ph.D., Martin has researched novel type of photonic hardware architectures for all-optical computing, inspired by machine learning. Martin also developed the circuit simulator Caphe (which is now part of Luceda’s commercial product offering). After finishing his Ph.D. degree, he has done business development for 1 year to prepare for the startup company Luceda Photonics.
