2023

We have just completed the 8th annual PIC International Conference, and again like in the summer of 2022, this conference not only surpassed everybody's expectations, but thrilled us with live presentations, audience, panels, exciting Q&A, the best of the best in personal networking, and finally completely full exhibit. The technology updates and progress were again exciting and generated lots of audience questions for the speakers. Speaker presentations were shortened to 15mins to allow the full 2 days of conference programing to contain a broad and wide cross-section of the PIC industry. The whole value chain for the PIC industry was represented that ranged from wafers to epitaxial growth, devices, packaging, modules, testing, and systems, to social media. It is now very clear that PIC International is the conference to attend if your interest is Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) not only in optical networking and internet, but other market verticals such as automotive, sensing, medical, displays, instruments, agriculture etc.

Building on the success of its predecessors, the fourth Photonic Integrated Circuits International Conference pinpointed the most promising opportunities for this industry.

Co-Conference Chairs, Dr Michael Lebby and Dr. Bill Ring both reflect on the fourth PIC International Conference: "We have just finished the 4th annual PIC International Conference, and again like in 2018, it surpassed everybody's expectations, but what's more, folks are now recognizing throughout the value chain, from wafers to epitaxial growth, devices, packaging, modules and systems, to social media that PIC International is the conference to attend if your interest is Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs). We again filled all of our seats, and like last year folks from CS International and Sensor Solutions International attended the PIC sessions. Our annual PIC awards generated nearly 10,000 online votes and the winners in 6 categories were announced at the end of Day 1 by the European trade association EPIC. In my humble opinion, this was the best PIC International event to date, and achieved not only world class speakers, world class presentations, but also world class networking during the exhibit hours, breaks, and meal events."

Brussels proves a great venue as more than 600 attend the co-located PIC International, CS International and HES International Conferences.

Conference Chair, Dr Michael Lebby reflects on the third PIC International Conference: "We have just finished the 3rd annual PIC International Conference, and again like in 2017, it surpassed everybody's expectations, not only from the organiser’s perspective, but from the attendees, and my perspective as chairman of the conference. Attendance was full – yes maximum allotted seats, and at times, folks from CS International and HES International attended the PIC sessions. Our annual PIC awards generated 1000’s of online votes and the winners in 7 categories were announced at the end of Day 1. Like last year, these are PIC industry awards, voted by the PIC industry."

Brussels proves a great venue as more than 420 flock to the co-located PIC International and CS International Conference.

Conference Chair, Michael Lebby gives his thoughts on the conference: "This was the first PIC International Conference, and it surpassed everybody's expectations, not only from the organisers perspective, but from the attendees, and my perspective as chairman of the conference. Over 200 delegates attended two days of jammed packed sessions on photonic integrated circuits (PICs) that spanned the whole value chain from wafers/materials, to devices, to modules, to systems, and finally to service providers, and in particular datacenters. With standing room only, and lots of extra seats brought to the conference room on the first morning, the atmosphere was at times electric. PIC themes addressed the incumbent technology InP, and thoroughly addressed challenges for new competition such as silicon photonics and polymer photonics. Global sized service providers and optical network system companies gave very clear expectations of the need for PIC based technologies, while transceiver and module manufacturers, both international as well as start-ups presented the latest results in a field that is one of the most dynamic in the industry."
